*[The city of Satellite Beach is situated on Florida's 'Space Coast' in Brevard County. It was named Satellite Beach in 1871, because of its proximity to Cape Canaveral. With its pristine beaches, a sense of strong community values and the growth of the aerospace, defense and technology companies in nearby Melbourne, families are attracted to beautiful Satellite Beach. Many military families also reside here, as Patrick Air Force Base is just several minutes north along Highway A1A.
Satellite Beach is home to the first island community in Brevard County, Tortoise Island. This private, gated waterfront community is located between the beautiful Indian and Banana Rivers. Tortoise Island’s extraordinary location boasts luxury homes situated on navigable canals or river front back yards and docks, perfect for waterfront entertaining. The picturesque sunsets are well worth slowing down]* for and enjoying one of nature’s splendors.
Become a full time or seasonal Space Coast islander! Let the ocean breeze awaken you in your oceanfront condo as the sun rises above the Atlantic or begin your day with a run along the beach. Emerge from your canal front home and gaze at the abundant wildlife as dolphins, manatees and turtles appreciate their home just as you do. The choice is yours!
Only accessible by boat, Samsons Island is a 52-acre island located in the Indian River, owned by the City of Satellite Beach. Primitive camping, bird watching, geocaching and nature photography are just a few of the treasures in store for you. Spend the day fishing for trout, redfish, snook or tarpon on your kayak, personal watercraft or boat in the scenic, surrounding waters. Keep the fun going with a tennis match on one of the eight, public lighted tennis courts at the DeSoto Recreation Complex. Their youth, summer tennis program is the pride of the courts! The Satellite Beach Sports and Recreation Park houses a Skate/BMX Park, Dog Park, walking trail, soccer fields and volleyball.
The space industry is very much alive on the Space Coast! Keep an eye out to the north for planned rocket launches from Kennedy Space Center while lounging on the beach. Take a walk along the boardwalk at Hightower Beach Park with its unique dunes or rent a pavilion and play a game of volleyball at Pelican Beach Park, where World Champion local surfers Damien and CJ Hobgood learned how to surf. The Pelican Beach Clubhouse is the perfect location to host your special event with an outdoor wooden deck and beautiful Atlantic Ocean vistas.
Soak in the sunshine along the coast, meet some locals and just take pleasure in living in this quaint seaside city.
