*[The Town of Malabar, located in the Palm Bay-Melbourne metro area got its 1st official Post Office and name on December 24, 1883. This quaint, small town is home to a diverse variety of homes, land and beautiful horse and agricultural farms. Malabar’s east boundary runs along the Intracoastal Waterway and is also located just north of the Valkaria Airport.
The Malabar Community Park features a playground, a tennis court, soccer field, basketball court and nature walk where you can find turtles and sand hill cranes frolicking along the shore and in the small lake. The Malabar Florida dog park is close by and a great place for people and their pets to get exercise and have fun.
The Jordan Scrub Sanctuary and Malabar Scrub Sanctuary features horseback riding trails, non motorized bike trails and walking/hiking trails. Exciting arrays of habitat types are found in these]* sanctuaries including scenic lakes, ponds, seasonal marshes, and pine flatwoods. While hiking through these habitats, a bobcat or gopher tortoise may cross your path, bald eagles and ospreys can be spotted fishing for meals in the lake, and local scrub-jays can be seen foraging in the scrubby flatwoods.
After some great outdoor adventures, enjoy Riverfront dining at the Yellow Dog Café, The Shack Seafood Restaurant or take a 30 minute drive south, down US Highway 1 for a weekend getaway at Captain Hiram’s Resort. This relaxed waterfront beach resort is located in the town of Sebastian nestled on the Intracoastal Waterway. Explore the Indian River Lagoon or party at the Sandbar.
